My work is driven by the idea of the messiness of human existence and by the world around me as I experience it. I explore contradictions sometimes literally - in the materials used - and at other times in the content of the images portrayed.
Paintings may be a direct response to the seeming banality of many aspects of contemporary life; everyday interactions which are nonetheless loaded with philosophical and intellectual meaning by virtue of their presence in our lives. Others are created with no specific intent behind the message I want them to portray and the images are chosen in response to visual or emotional appeal.
By combining traditional and non-traditional media such as food wrappers/gum with portraits and drawings I like to explore how their identity in contemporary culture affects how the image is perceived. I’m trying to express a response to life that is not possible in a simple statement and find constructive rather than destructive ways of processing my frustrations.
“Dear all, my confession is on the wall of this town, my only apology is this, that I couldn’t spend another night in that fucking living room”
(Unknown, untitled ll: The Beautiful Renaissance, 2009)
